Strawberry Cafe, Let's Rock!

Well the cafe name doesn't mean that they only server Strawberry here. But here in Strawberry Cafe, the restaurant are full decorated by the Strawberry plants. A very cheerish and fresh look you can find there and also you can taste the most randomly traditional hand made noodle of Indonesia. The adorable thing is besides you are waiting of your order to be served, they will give you a mini Lego-kind of toy so you can play with your friends instead of feeling boring.

You can build everything you want, but only as long as you are creative enough to make it lol. And do not assume that it just a game, NO, it is a game of pride! Why? Because you will get punishement if you loose. Well only if you follow the regulation from Strawberry Cafe. The punishement itself could be messed-face-painting or tickling-gangsta or many more depend on the idea. Good thing is Strawberry Cafe will support you to punish the loserrrrr hahahaha.

If you are a birthday boy/girl, you are really should visit Strawberry Cafe because it would become a very memorizing moment! The crew of Strawberry Cafe would really like to make fun of you and trick you in a pleasent way. They will offer you also a birthday hat, balloon, etc. For group of people, Strawberry Cafe will offer you a hats that only lended by them. Very unique typical hat like wizard, hair bob marley, afro, mickey, oh just a lot. It is really a good idea to spend a good time in here.

Now let's talk about the menu yummmm. The most popular menu is Mie Mbah Jingkrak Pedas. But this is extremely hot! You need to ask the chef to make it a bit softer or sweet if you are not a spicy lover. Overall my score for this restaurant is 8.9 since it is really fun to stay either long or short time. They also offer you a spot for stay a long time like Gaming Spot for those who brings their Laptop, Chitchat Spot for those you are in reunion, etc. The service was good and of course the most important is the food! Indeed, it is delicious too. Very recomended place to go.

And as you can see, this is a very affordable Restaurant to visited. Enjoy!

Gelora Bung Karno, where health and fun are combined

Yup, the most popular Stadium in Indonesia. Known by GBK which is located in the Central of Jakarta. It is not only a Stadium, but more like a Club's activity place. If you visit GBK on Saturday and Sunday, it is normal to see Skateboard Club attraction, Roller Blade Club attraction, Cheerleader attraction, National Runner Club, Volley Club, Parqour Club, Bicycle Club, and yea! So many more!

For example "CALISTHENICS INDEPENDENCE", it is a street workout club and free for public. You can join whenever you want and they will welcome you cheerfully. They even got a lose weight program and you won't believe how effective it is until you join them. In fact, many of them succed on loosing weight to their ideal one. Come on, go stalk their squad at Caiden_SW on instagram!

Therefore, some of International groups are there too. The popular one named "Chi". By the name itself, you surely know where does it came from. In Chinesse traditional medical, it is not strange to hear Chi which it means Energy Flow. It is one of the Energy Flow that combined by nature and human's body. We are not sure actually about the activity, but mostly the participant are elderly and they look as if they are in peace lol. But well do not underestimate this Chi group, because the trainer itself came from China! You can google yourself about Chi if you are curious and interested enough. For us which we never try it, it is actually pretty impressive.

Gelora Bung Karno Stadium

So after all, if you want to enter the Stadium then you must pay around Rp 100.000/person alone. But it will be different if you visit in group and of course it will be cheaper. I payed Rp 50.000/person for 12people back then. Well inside the Stadium, you can play Footbal, Sandman Survival, Running, use the long Stick, and so much more. But the tournament of football itself has a very rare schedule that you need to wait their announcement by Internet or their Advertisement.

However, I really think that the inside of the Stadium is really nice and clean. The wide size is also make us free to do things by our own. But I won't say the outside is worse, in fact I've been enjoying GBK lot of times with my friends and sometimes we joined some of the Club that exist there. And since there were so many renovation there, now GBK also got a GYM tool facilities (body build program). I am very happy with the facilities that provided because it is not only let me build my body without cost, but it also provides a health tools for people that can't pay for GYM Pass.

Again, it is clean and really good to go inside. For your information, at night you can't visit inside only a few of people. It has a minimum capacity to visit inside. But still, you can feel the tournament moment at night there!

Kiddies Park at Town

Well maybe you have kids with your travel. Don't worry, there is PlayParq located at South of Jakarta and actually has branches at Kemang and Epicentrum. This is a large Park that includes a lot of playground that absolutely also an amazing designed park in town.

One of the owner,
Lisa

With Rp 60.000 (Monday - Friday) and Rp 100.000 (Saturday - Sunday), these kiddies can play from water play park, castle park, swing park, indoor plaground, and Oh so many things! Also inside you can find a massage studio and restaurants. So while you see your kiddies play happily, maybe you can relax. There are also an Ice Cream stall that taste also good, I don't know the brand though but  the taste just as delicious as AW's Ice Cream.

I've been there with my angelic-look little niece and such a good place for kids. It such a pity that I'm a grown up already now since the park really got me into it! And everything just clean, really nice to even laying on the ground for baby photoshoot. In fact I've seen so many kiddies that pictured by their parents while they play around. And one other good thing is, this place is not really crowded. Since the culture of Indonesian kiddies aren't play in the park. That's what keep me peace inside.

Very recomended playpark to visit!

No, you haven't visit Jakarta!

You really don't know what is this? It is Monas, the National Monument of Indonesia. And of course it is located exactly in the Centre of Jakarta. Monas designer itself was a person from France. With a pure 32 Kg Gold of fire symbol on the top, Monas became a very famous Monument in Indonesia. The other unique thing is we can go inside the monument. It is totally not only a visual Monument, but once you entrance, you will see a lot of Indonesian Art such as Paintings, Batiks, Wayang, and many other thing that you can assume this as a Museum.

The inside part itself could reach the very top of the Monument. But don't wish you could touch the pure gold material. Because there are a lot of requirement to go there. We ourself haven't even go to the top. But well, the Museum is splendid though.

The other unique thing is also that Monas will glow at night. It will change colour into Pink, Purple, Blue, Green, and Yellow. And not only that thing, but also there are a lot of festival at night. Not a very good festival, but it is a traditional part of Indonesian Activity. They will offer you an Outdoor Theatre, a Traditional Dance show, Phantonim, Attraction, and so many things. You can also buy traditional food there or even souvenirs. There are somehow bicycle rent if you want to. It is absolutely crowded at night.

For me, it is better to go there at noon. So you can visit the Museum and after you could enjoy a little bit of the crowded traditional sensation. And becarefull if you lost, because it is a very wide place.

One of the owner,
Lisa

Remember what they say, "If you haven't visit Monas, then you haven't visit Jakarta".

Enjoy!

Dear Friends, Family and Future Locale Diner Patrons,

If you are living in the North of Jakarta, get ready for the newest addition Diner & Bar concept which people like to say - 'Locale' nighborhood Diner & Bar 24/7. They really a good place to chill around, however it is located in the middle of a lot of restaurants.

This bar really fancy but really maintain the typical of Indonesian food. Even they serve American food and a lot of Asian food, but their speciality that also popular is the "Ayam Saos Padang" which means a Chicken with Padang's Sauce. And the taste, uwaw, don't underestimate it. Up until now I really like to visit Locale for that reason. But be careful for its spicy! And tea, here they serve a lot of typical tea starts from Indonesia, Japan, China, and England tea.

Well however, you can freely choose American food if you want, but also Indonesian food that won't lose for the taste thing. Yummy come enjoy your chillin time here. Really recomended!

Mangga Dua

This is a huge shopping centre. Not really modern, not really traditional, but you could just find souvenirs here and some of good quality goods clothes. This region in fact it uses the name 'Mangga Dua' but there were so many places with the name of Mangga Dua. Some of them are: Dusit Mangga Dua, Mangga Dua Harcomas, Pasar Pagi Mangga Dua, ITC Mangga Dua, WTC Mangga Dua, Mangga Dua Square, even Hotel Ibis Mangga Dua.

There is absolutely something quite unique in their building, The building of shopping center are mutually connected by a bridge between buildings. The bridge will allow you to move from one building to other without having to go down to the outdoors. And one thing you should know about this market, you can decrease the price ! Yes, of course, they will offer you with a high prices but you are really welcome to offer lower prices. From Rp 200.000 and decreased to Rp 150.000 or lower, it is possible ! Just depends on your ability to bargain.

The other fact, fashion core mostly is for women. That is why when men visit Mangga Dua Mall, they will prefer to visit the electronic district which as wide as the fashion district space. Starts from gadget, gadget supporter, laptop, computer, game, CDs, camera, etc. But not really recommended because some of them are not original. For us, do not ever buy expensive electronic thing without guarantee even if they sell it extremely cheap (well some of us have been fraud by scammer so we know it very well). Either the thing is Second hand but they say it is new, or has been opened and they took the good little stuffs, or anything. Just be careful.

We do not think that traveler would buy electronic anyway while they traveling. But just in case we think this is a good information. However, you can find some of souvenirs there so just take a look!

Thousand Island

A short gateway is all you need! Jakarta has a thousand island present for Jakartians. Thousand Island welcome you with a warm waves and a great sunset. Why is it called "a Thousand Island"? Of course because it has a lot of Island there such as Pari Island, Tidung Island, Putri Island, Kepala Island, Untung Island, Panggang Island, etc. But if you heard a Thousand Island, there morelikely talk about Tidung Island.

The Thousand Islands or known as Kepulauan Seribu, consist of around 340 islets, including sand bars. Set in a clean blue sea filled with myriad of the tropical fish living among multicolored corrals, the Thousand Island are tremendously tempting places to spend your vacation. Some of the them have been developed into holiday comforts such as the accommodations, restaurants, pools and other sport facilities it is an ideal place for a change from the routines of your life.

For water sports and underwater world lovers, it's a paradise. Among the islands there are historical sites worth to visit as a break to male it a real "mixed-salad" of your vocation seasoned with the Thousand Island dressing. You can try to snorkeling or diving by some agent there (well their price are never consistent, so you need to explore by yourself and try to negotiate price with the agent). Normally the more package /person of water sport you buy, the cheaper price you will need to spend.

Thousand Island can be reached by traditional and modern boat by a lot of way.
1. Marina Ancol Jakarta Port
2. Pantai Mutiara Pluit Dock
3. Sunda Kelapa Port
4. Kalibaru Port
5. Cakung Drain Port
6. Tanjung Priok Port
7. Muara Angke Port

Muara Angke Port

Marina Ancol Jakarta Port
But since the best one, Marina Ancol Jakarta Port, cost pretty expensive (around Rp 200.000) we really suggest you to reach a Thousand Island by Pelabuhan Muara Angke. It only costs Rp 60.000. Well as we know price is quality, if you really want to feel the sensation of fancy boat rather than a traditional boat, then choose Marina Ancol Jakarta. So the choice is yours, travelers!

For the lodging, you can choose wether you would like to stay at resort or homestay. Resorts are easy to find, since most of the lodging are resorts. But homestay, you really need to book a reservation because there are so many people run after it. The range of resorts price are around Rp 1.000.000 - Rp 5.000.000 depends on facility and comfortability they offer. While homestay got range from Rp 150.000 - 500.000. We don't suggest you to get a homestay because the comfortability is a bit poor.

Otherwise actually, we prefer you to just book a tour package to a Thousand Island rather than arrange it all alone. Because it is really confusing if you have to arrange it all alone and suprisingly cost more expensive. By tour travel to a Thousand Island, we ensure you that it will cost cheaper. And you can get a very great facility with an affordable price such as Underwater Documentary Camera, Water Sports Activity, Water Sports Equipment, Bicycle, etc depend on the Tours.

History of Jakarta

Bunderan HI
Taken by : Jessica

Jakarta as the capital city of Indonesia has an interesting history. Many different aspects have colored the history of the city and the lives of its people. Since the 5th century, ships from China and Champa (Vietnam), they docked in Ciliwung River estuary. Indian traders and Portuguese also came to this small town. Sailors from Java, bringing spices from the Moluccas, also anchored here. Almost everyone from the East and West left their mark to blend in Jakarta. Centuries later, the port of Jakarta grew into a bustling center of international trade. Between the 17th century and early 18th century, a ship could sail further up the river Ciliwung.

Jakarta’s recorded history dates from about 400 AD when it was a Hindu port settlement called Sunda Pura (Holy Town), under the ancient Indianized kingdom of Tarumanagara. By 700 AD it had become part of the vast Hindu Sunda Kingdom. In the 12th century, the area was known as Sunda Kelapa and served as Java’s main harbor for Asian and Middle Eastern traders. The Portuguese arrived in 1512 and a decade later reached a trading deal with the Sunda Kingdom to provide military assistance against the threat of Islamic Javanese. On June 22, 1527, Muslim leader Fatahillah conquered the area and renamed it Djaja Karta, signifying his “glorious victory” over the Portuguese colonists and the Sundanese Hindus – most of whom were massacred. June 22 is now celebrated as Jakarta’s anniversary.

The Dutch seized power in 1619 by destroying Djaja Karta, which was rebuilt and renamed Batavia, becoming the centre of political and economic activity. The city grew, with neighborhoods of Chinese, Indian Muslims and ethnic groups from throughout the archipelago. In 1699, much of Batavia was devastated by an earthquake. In 1740, simmering Chinese resentment against discriminatory Dutch policies prompted a rebellion. The Dutch responded by massacring most of the approximately 11,000 Chinese residents. This ethnic cleansing of the city’s mercantile class caused a recession, overcome only when more Chinese came to make money. By the early 1800s, the so-called “Queen of the East” had become polluted, overcrowded and disease-ridden, prompting its administrators and many wealthier residents to move south.

In March 1942, the Dutch surrendered to the Japanese wartime occupation forces and the city was renamed Jakarta Tokubetsu Shi (Special Municipality of Jakarta). When Japan surrendered to the Allied forces in August 1945, Jakarta was to have become the new nation’s capital. But the Dutch occupied the city and refused to recognize Indonesian independence, so the capital was temporarily Yogyakarta, until the Dutch formally transferred sovereignty in December 1949 after four years of fighting.

The departure of the Dutch led to massive rural migration into Jakarta, which was seen as the center of economic opportunities. Founding president Sukarno ordered the construction of numerous statues and monuments, as well as hotels and other prestigious projects. The city’s slums spread as the nation shuddered toward near economic collapse in the early 1960s. After Sukarno was replaced by General Suharto in 1966, Jakarta had a new governor, Ali Sadikin, who in 11 years cleaned up much of the city, bulldozing slums, banning pedicabs, and improving public services and infrastructure. His projects were partly funded by legalized gambling – a policy later overturned by Islamic politicians.

In May 1998, Jakarta suffered three days of riots that left over 1,000 people dead and forced Suharto from power. The city was beset by a recession but has since rebounded with massive development and economic growth. Jakarta’s biggest challenges include traffic congestion, pollution and annual flooding.

Museum Bank Indonesia

We have visited Museum Bank Indonesia and it’s so breathtaking! Eventough the quiet and calm building is compared between the situation outside, Crowded street and heavy traffic going on.

The museum itself  is located at the former headquarters of De Javasche Bank, the central bank of Dutch Indies during the colonial times – thus it had a colonial look with marble pillars and white exterior everywhere.

Night Porridge? Only at Barito Chicken Porridge

Porridge is a common food for Indonesian people, especially in the morning. You can never count how many Porridge seller that goes around. But if you find a Night seller Porridge, then maybe that is the Barito Chicken Porridge Restaurant. This Restaurant located exactly at South of Jakarta. They open since 5PM-11PM and funny thing is they always finish their food at 10PM. Do you start wondering now? Yea, their Porridge is very well-known for its delicious taste. With all combination of cheese sticks, canay, chicken, fried union, and all secrets ingredients, they create a very delightingful tasty porride in Jakarta.

Other unique fact is the seller has no big room for all the customer. And very interesting, because people would rather eat at their own car than wait for a seat or gave up the porridge! The seller only has a tent though, but still people coming. Only with Rp 15.000 - Rp 25.000 you can enjoy the taste of most famous porridge in Jakarta!

WIRO SABLENG 212, can you get a seat there?

If you ever heard "don't judge the book by its cover", then this is a very factual prove. Wiro Sableng, a seafood restaurant located at Kelapa Gading. Unlike a luxury and beautiful restaurant, they have a very simply-look with a very large space inside. But really, come on go there and try to find a seat! It is really hard since the food already known for its taste. Not just a little people would wait to get a seat, but there are a lot. I suggest you to visit Wiro Sableng at work hours ( 2PM - 5PM ).

It is actually cost quite standard to cheap. But once you eat there, you will just order everything and came up with  Rp 300.000-600.000 (3 Person) bill. But none has ever regret their money spent there.  However, even the government people visit it. And surely, this is a very recommended food to taste.

Setu Babakan Traditional Food, Kerak Telor

Setu Babakan, is a Village of Betawi which is located in West of Jakarta. While you can travel around in this nature looking and traditional village, you could also try their most popular food in here that also mostly taste incredibly delicious. Its called, Kerak Telor, the one of the most popular Indonesian traditional food. There are two types of Kerak Telor though, such as Chicken's eggs and the other with Duck's eggs. And the other surprising thing is you just need Rp 10.000 - Rp 20.000 for this favour of traditional ancients food!

It is not located in certain place, the seller just bring their stuff to cook and needs. But believe me, you will come back right after you finish your first Kerak Telor!
